Travis Jones 2022 NFL Draft Profile

I like Travis Jones. Quite a bit. He came on strong at the end of the year and showed out on a bad UConn defense this season. Jones was a starter every year they played college football (UConn did not play during COVID) and got better every year. Not only did he play well in conference, but when UConn played against the big schools, he still held his own and more. Here is our 2022 NFL Draft Profile on Travis Jones.

Jones had a great NFL Combine performance. Really among the stars of the defensive line group this year. Here are our notes on it. Jones posted a great 4.92 40-yard dash time and looked even better in drills.

What intrigues me most about Travis Jones is that he is a quality run-stopper, and can also pressure the quarterback. His sack totals went up every year (5.5, 6, 7.5), and was great in gaps for run plays. He has great hips, his hips definitely do not lie. I go back to how he plays in the gaps because he is among the better prospects at this. If Jones lands in a two-gap scheme or 4-3, he will excel. Jones is already quite strong, and he has room to get even stronger. Big hands and uses his punch very well, at times toying with guards he is lined up against. Both of his games against Cincinnati were excellent, and his performance against Clemson this past year was very solid.

Jones doesn’t have a lot of twitch to him. I think he could improve on pad level and where he puts his hands. While he does have good hands as I mentioned above, he could become even faster in using them. This will help tremendously going forward.

I am pretty high on Travis Jones. Like him a whole lot. These Georgia boys are a clear 1 and 2, but Jones is far and away DT3 in this class. If he finds a way to sneak into the end of the first round, I won’t be shocked. But whichever team grabs Jones in the second round, they will be thanking their lucky stars. Jones has big-time potential and I can’t wait to see him at the next level and see what kind of player he can develop into.
