Trade Rumors Clearly Bothering Jakob Chychrun

Jakob Chychrun is clearly frustrated with being involved in trade rumors and this isn’t the first time he’s spoken about them. Chychrun was supposed to find a home in Ottawa after the Senators traded for him. Since that time, the Sens have done nothing except float his name out there in the rumor mill. The veteran defenseman is clearly past the point of frustration.

“The trade deadline is over, but people are already talking about the summer. It’s not like the chatter is going anywhere,” Chychrun told The Athletic’s Ian Mendes. “It’s the reality of the situation with my contract with having one year left. We’ll see what happens with my situation moving forward.”

“I really don’t know what else I can do. I can only focus on the things I can control. And that’s easier said than done sometimes,” he said. “That’s something as a professional that I’m going to deal with and try to not let it affect me.”

“What’s disappointing is not the (trade) talks,” he said. “It’s the way the season has gone for us as a group. If things were different, none of this would be going on. That’s the most frustrating thing for me. We all had such high hopes for this group, and we haven’t lived up to those expectations. That’s the toughest pill to swallow.”

What’s crazy is this was supposed to be a homecoming for Chychrun. He has family in the area and was actually happy about a move to Ottawa. A rarity for NHL players. Somehow it feels like they’re going to screw it all up.

In reality, I think Ottawa just doesn’t know what to do about committing that much money to the left side of their defense adding Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot to that mix. I just don’t understand why Ottawa thinks they will be better by getting rid of part of that group.
