Process could be wrapped as soon as this afternoon. Still some loose ends to tie up.
First to report: @DarrenDreger.
In a stunning turn of events, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made a significant move to bolster their front office by hiring Brad Treliving. Treliving, previously the general manager of the Calgary Flames, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the organization. His arrival in Toronto marks the beginning of a new era for the franchise as they strive to reach past their second-round struggle in future years.
Treliving has established himself as a respected figure in the NHL, known for making roster moves and building competitive teams. During his Flames tenure, he signed Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk to long-term deals to create a powerful playoff roster.
Under Treliving’s leadership, the Flames made the playoffs in four out of his eight seasons. In those four seasons, the Flames made it to the second round twice. Treliving’s ability to navigate the salary cap and build a sustainable roster provides a solid foundation for success in Toronto.
Treliving will look to be active this offseason, as the Maple Leafs have major moves to still be made. Some include the extension of superstar forward Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and more. Treliving will become the 18th general manager in Toronto Maple Leafs history.
Toronto fell once again in the second round this season, as the Florida Panthers ended their season in five games. The Maple Leafs finished their regular season with an impressive 50-21-11 record, finishing second in the Atlantic division.
Can Treliving bring some newfound life to the Maple Leafs in the next few seasons? Or will the drought in Toronto continue to stay?
