Top-35 Class of ’22 Prospect Collin Chandler Commits to BYU
Class of 2022 top-35 prospect Collin Chandler has committed to BYU, per an announcement on Instagram Live with ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. Chandler chose the Cougars and head coach Mark Pope over Arizona, Gonzaga, Oregon, Stanford and Utah.
Chandler on why he chose BYU
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is choosing to stay in-state and join the Cougars. However, Cougar fans shouldn’t expect him in Provo for another two seasons as Chandler will be going on a two-year mission before suiting up for BYU as a freshman when he’s 20 or 21 – at which point the school will be in the Big 12. It was the relationship with the coaching staff, like it is for many players, as well as the college’s atmosphere that was the deciding factor in his decision, he told 247Sports.
“Their coaching staff is awesome and super good at making connections. They have done a good job in the past of developing shooters. So, it is appealing to go there and potentially have the freedom to shoot from deep.”

“I felt like I had the most to learn from the coaching staff and felt like my talents would be utilized the best in their system. I also felt like I would enjoy the school life the best and would be most prepared for life after basketball by going to BYU.”

The Tape
Chandler, like previously mentioned, is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard still developing physically. He is one of the best shooters in his class and is comfortable shooting off the dribble and off the catch. He was named first team All-Circuit by The Circuit – what a mouthful – after averaging 14.8 points, 5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game with Utah Prospects this past summer.
Chandler is not the flashiest player, but he moves with a purpose. He loves to get to the rim with his right hand and has displayed a good ability to finish through contact. He will need to develop a tighter handle, since the offense will likely run through him at the collegiate level.
Although he’ll be on his mission, the two-year timeframe does afford him the opportunity to add muscle mass to his skinny build. He’s a good prospect to watch as he possesses potential pro upside, but you don’t know how, or if, the time away from basketball may affect his game or development.
