Top-30 Class of ’22 Prospect Dillon Mitchell Commits to Texas

Dillon Mitchell, a consensus top-30 prospect in the class of 2022, has committed to Texas. Mitchell is coach Chris Beard’s second recruit of the cycle, joining fellow top-30 prospect Arterio Morris. The Montverde Academy star chose Texas over Florida State and Tennessee.

On why he chose the Longhorns, the 6-7 forward told On3’s Joe Tipton this:

“When I went on that visit man, just the relationship with the coaches and their development is what stood out. I think my biggest thing right now is developing. I know where I’m trying to get and I need a lot more development so when I went to (Texas’) practice I saw how hard they work, how much the coaches push the players…they’re in the gym working all the time. That’s just what I need and it felt like the perfect fit. I knew right after I left in my heart I knew I wanted to be there.”

Mitchell is ranked all over the board across several recruiting sites, with ESPN slotting him at 18 in their Top 100 rankings and 247Sports placing him at 28 in their composite rankings.

Scouts rave about the future Longhorn’s defensive ability and he is a projected first round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. His offensive game, like many teenagers, is ever-improving, but he does possess great athleticism, which can certainly compensate for any question marks surrounding his long distance shot making. Expect him to fill a slasher-type role for Beard in a team that will likely have some lofty postseason expectations – because everything’s bigger in Texas.
