Too Early 2023 College Football Hot Takes: SEC

We have one major conference to go over in the hot takes series and that’s the king of the sport, the SEC. This one was actually the hardest for me to come up with. This conference is so loaded and these teams are just going to beat the hell out of each other. Good luck betting on this conference. Nevertheless, let’s get to the too early 2023 college football hot takes in the SEC!

Joe Milton becomes first round pick

I may have surprised people with how high I had Joe Milton on my quarterback list. I also picked Milton in fantasy to stash for next year for $1. This is what I know. I just watched Hendon Hooker put up video game numbers and he sucks. Milton has some of the best pure arm strength I’ve ever seen from quarterback. It’s not just easy gas. That thing is elite, elite.

The tools are there. I believe in Josh Heupal to figure out the rest. We’re also talking about a guy that posted a 10-0 TD to INT ratio on 82 attempts last year. Wait til he actually gets the keys. I expect Tennessee to be even better than they were a year ago.

Georgia looks better under Carson Beck

Stetson Bennett did his job and thrived under pressure. There is no guarantee that Georgia wins a third consecutive National Title, but I do think they will get better quarterback play. I did a longer form post on Carson Beck not too long ago. You can check that out here.

Vanderbilt over 3.5 wins

Vandy won 5 games last year. Do people remember that? They also have three gimme games this year including Hawaii, Alabama A&M, and UNLV. Can I get one more somewhere on the schedule? Last year Vandy beat Kentucky and Florida. Can they do that again this year? What about Wake Forest with no Sam Hartman? Missouri? Auburn? Just need one more win! I’ll take this bet.

Quinshon Judkins leads the conference in rushing

No more sharing carries with Zach Evans. It’s not like that happened much toward the latter portion of the season anyway. Judkins is a total stud and will be relied on to take Ole Miss to the next level. Judkins rushed for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman. I expect more of the same heading into his sophomore year.

If you’re looking for a sleeper candidate, this conference always produces really good backs. Justice Hayes, the freshman at Bama, would be my pick to come out of nowhere and lead the conference in this category.

Caleb Downs is the freshman to watch

This is the next Minkah Fitzpatrick. Heed the warning.
