Tom Brady Believes Russell Gage Is In For A Big Year With Bucs
Russell Gage? That’s right. If the Bucs want to have another dominant year with Tom Brady, Russell Gage just might be the X-Factor. With Chris Godwin recovering from an ACL tear that happened late in the year, Gage’s importance shouldn’t be understated.
“He has to have a big year,” Brady said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN.com. “That is a very important role for an offense that throws the ball as much as we do. . . . Russ, when he is out there, there is a lot of work that needs to go into the next six weeks to be ready. We’re challenged right out of the box this year.”
Gage, 26, has only ever played for the Falcons heading into his 5th NFL season. After being a 6th round pick out of LSU in 2018, Gage inked a three year-$30 million deal with the Bucs this offseason. Certainly not a small number given the amount of wide receiver depth Tampa already had on the roster. They must have wanted Gage bad because Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller already deserved expanded roles.
Maybe Gage deserves a bit more love for fantasy? He went for $1 in my league and maybe everybody else made a mistake here. If Godwin is more injured than we all think and Brady is forming chemistry with Gage? We may actually have something here fantasy wise?
The good news is the Bucs can take their time with Godwin. The NFC South is a dumpster fire at this point. Tampa shouldn’t have any troubles winning that division unless Brady falls off the cliff.
