The Chicago Bears are finally on the board for NFL free agency. They have signed star Philadelphia Eagles linebacker TJ Edwards to a three-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport.
The Chicago Bears have entered free agency with the most amount of cap space in the NFL. They have reached an abundance of around $75 million this offseason, and boy, are they gonna use it. Chicago recently traded their first overall pick in this year’s draft to keep upgrading their team this offseason. Click here for more information on that trade.
It is being reported by Ian Rapoport that Chicago is signing Edwards to a $19.5 million deal over three years. He will receive $12 million in guaranteed money.
Edwards became a force for the Eagles for the past two seasons. In 2021, Edwards has a total of 130 tackles with 64 solo and 66 assisted tackles. He then made an even bigger jump in 2022. In 17 games last season, Edwards had a total of 159 tackles with 99 solo and 60 assisted. He also added three sacks in the past two seasons.
Edwards was the cornerstone of the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense last season. He leads the dirty birds to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2018. Unfortunately, the Eagles would lose in their biggest game of the year.
Chicago ranked second to last with opponent rushing yards per game. They allowed almost 160 rushing yards per game, which was 13 yards better than the Houston Texans. Edwards will become a rock for the Bears linebacking core next season, as Ryan Poles continues to put on a masterclass of an offseason.
