The Chiefs are joining in on the wide receiver arms race in the AFC. The Jets landed Davante Adams. The Bills responded by trading for Amari Cooper. Now here comes the Chiefs getting their own target. The Titans are trading veteran wide out DeAndre Hopkins to Kansas City.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news. A conditional 4th round pick will head to Tennessee in return. It’s really a 5th rounder that can become a 4th if certain conditions are met.
Hopkins, 32, has 15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown this season. He’s clearly not the same receiver he used to be. The speed is severely diminished but so was the Titans offense. The hope here is that Hopkins can obviously become more impactful playing with Patrick Mahomes.
With Rashee Rice out for the season and JuJu Smith-Schuster now hurt, KC needed another target. Ditto for Hollywood Brown who hasn’t played a game all season. Skyy Moore stinks so it’s not like he can be counted on either. Xavier Worthy has had his moments as a rookie but I’m not sure that’s quite enough on its own.
These two front offices have made their second trade with each other during this calendar year. Let’s not forget about the deal that sent L’Jarius Sneed to Tennessee for a third round pick. All things considered, not a bad piece of business by the Titans to essentially swap Hopkins for Sneed to move down in the draft a few spots.
