It’s Time For The Redskins To Hand The Keys To Dwayne Haskins

The Washington Redskins are 0-3 and their season is over. After getting humiliated by the Bears, it looks like everyone is on the hot seat. The Skins will probably only stink as long as Dan Snyder owns the team, but there’s no denying that the Redskins need a spark. It’s time for the Redskins to hand the keys to Dwayne Haskins. NOW.

Look, I’m all for letting a quarterback sit and learn. It this instance, it doesn’t make a ton of sense. If the Redskins don’t at least show promise down the stretch, Jay Gruden is getting fired. That’s the truth. The entire goal for a quarterback to sit is to learn the system. If there is going to be a new head coach next year, what is the value in learning the system? There is none. Haskins would benefit more from seeing the field rather than trying to learn a system that won’t be in place in a few weeks anyway.

The Redskins also aren’t winning. Who exactly is Haskins learning from? Patrick Mahomes had Alex Smith but Andy Reid is really the secret sauce. Alex Smith wasn’t an elite level franchise quarterback. This isn’t a Brett Favre / Aaron Rodgers situation. Haskins is sitting behind Case Keenum who is a bottom 5 starter. What’s next? Colt McCoy? We already know how the story ends for those two.

The Redskins play the Giants this week. Are they seriously going to let the Giants rock with Daniel Jones while Haskins sits on the bench? The Giants defense is awful. It would be the perfect spot to bring him out and get his confidence going. Plus, don’t you think Haskins wants to outplay Jones after Jones got drafted higher? Jones has given the Giants hope whether it’s false hope or not. The Redskins are stuck in the mud until they make a change.

Haskins threw 50 touchdowns in the Big 10 in 2018. I don’t know if he’s ready or not. I know that he gives the Skins hope. I know that sitting on the bench and learning in this dysfunctional environment isn’t beneficial. I know that trying to learn a system on the bench that won’t be in place next year can’t be better than going out there and seeing the speed of the game. It’s time to hand the keys to Dwayne Haskins.
