I Have Thoughts On The Justus Annunen / Scott Wedgewood Goalie Swap

I know I’m a tad late with this but as I’m just one man trying to cover six sports at the same time. We need more capable soldatos at VSM but without going on some unnecessary rant that you don’t care about, I just have some thoughts on this goalie swap trade. Justus Annunen now plays for the Predators and Scott Wedgewood now suits up for the Avalanche.

Avalanche:

I’m a little shocked they’re giving up on Annunen so soon. Annunen, 24, was a third round pick back in 2018. He has really nice flashes last season posting a .928 SV% in 14 outings last season. Felt like a young player who hasn’t hit his stride yet but had real potential. The results haven’t been good this year but in fairness, Alexandar Georgiev has been far worse.

The Avs didn’t just give up on Annunen. They gave up a late round pick along with him to acquire Wedgewood who signed a nothing burger contract to be a backup in Nashville. You only make this move if you quit on the player because that’s exactly what they did. Except this trade has a spice of panic mixed in. Their goaltender stinks and they know it.

I’d just argue the real problem is Georgiev.

Predators:

This trade on their side sure feels like they regret their actions with Yaroslav Askarov. I bet if you gave Barry Trotz a redo on that he would take it. C’mon… you know what Trotz is telling you with this trade.

We screwed up signing Wedgewood. We shouldn’t have given up a young goalie prospect. Let’s recoup our losses and bring in Annunen in hopes of filling that void. I’d argue he played bad chess along the way but he already knows the smart people can smell the stink of what he’s done. There’s no hiding it.

This team stinks and Trotz screwed up with this outrageous spending spree that accomplished nothing while still being weak down the middle of the ice. Everybody with a brain knows it.
