The Watermelon Burger at Toronto’s CNE
The CNE is Toronto’s iconic carnival that runs every August for three weeks. The Canadian National Exhibition is a great place to see friends, go on rides, attend shows and eat good food! The CNE had tons of food trucks surrounding the entire park, which made it perfect for hungry customers who want to enjoy a salty or sweet snack after a packed day filled with rides and shows.
From corn dogs to funnel cakes, the CNE has your classic carnival foods to satisfy every desire. However, this year they’ve also brought in new exciting treats as well. From foods such as hamburger ice cream to drinks such as pickle lemonade, there are some wacky snacks you’ve never tried before that you need to grab at the CNE! One that stood out to me? The Watermelon Burger!
The Watermelon Burger
At first, I thought it was just a grilled watermelon in between two buns. I thought it was silly, and it was not something I was willing to try. However, looking further I had seen that it was in fact a normal burger with watermelons instead of buns. It’s a classic grilled burger patty with feta cheese, spinach and sweet glaze, sandwiched between two watermelon slices. It comes with fresh crunchy fries.
After a few messy bites, I determined that this dish was a hit! The meat was fresh and perfectly charred. It was a good chunk of meat that was juicy and fresh.
Of course, the watermelon, the star of the show, was even juicer. It added a freshness that made the dish taste more like a crisp watermelon salad. The saltiness from the burger allowed the sweetness of the watermelon to shine without it being too sweet. The feta, spinach and glaze were the perfect addition to taking this burger from good to great. It came together as a fresh and delicious dish that was perfectly paired with the salty fresh-cut fries!
Check out the Watermelon Burger the next time you head to Toronto’s CNE!
