May 3, 2015, will be a huge day for the Washington Redskins organization as they will have to make a tough decision on the future of quarterback Robert Griffin III. To guarantee RG3’s roster spot for 2016 the Redskins will have to tender Griffin for a 2016 salary of 18.4 million. Should Washington pass Griffin will make 3.2 million for 2015 and become a free agent the following year? The biggest question is do you give up on a guy that you gave up three first round picks and a 2nd round pick to acquire. The eventual decision may be a hard one especially with the poor performance of backup Kirk Cousins. Maybe the most important lesson we should learn from this is that these block buster type deals rarely ever work for either side.
The Rams have not had a season over .500 since 2003, which showed their failure to cash in on a heavily one-sided trade. Currently the Redskins sit at 3-7 and the 6th pick in this year’s draft should the season end today. Would Washington consider Jameis Winston if he were to still be available in this year’s draft? The remaining six games left of the Redskins schedule will most likely clarify Robert Griffin’s future with the team.
