Texans Claim Diontae Johnson

When the Ravens waived Diontae Johnson after he quit on the team, it sure felt like the beginning of the end for the former Toledo product. Unlike De’Vondre Campbell, teams are still desperate for wide receiver help so Johnson is somehow getting another chance.

The Texans lost Tank Dell to another gruesome injury. With Dell on the shelf now for the rest of the season (and likely into next season) Houston had an open roster spot. Johnson has been claimed off the waiver wire and is on his way to Houston.

It doesn’t appear that anybody in particular broke the news here. It was noticed on the NFL transaction wire. However, ESPN’s Field Yates did note that the Chargers also put in a claim for him. Which is interesting considering that Jim Harbaugh had to have called his brother John to see WTF was going on with this mess.

We’ll see how long it takes Diontae to learn the playbook and get on the field. We’re running out of time before the playoffs start. Could John Metchie or Xavier Hutchinson find their way more into the mix? It’s not just Dell who is out. Stefon Diggs also tore his knee up and isn’t coming back this year either.

Also, I’m not sure I have to say this but the fantasy finals are this week. DO NOT pick up Johnson and expect him to save you. It’s unlikely he suits up for the Christmas game given that he just got picked up.
