The Bruins have been pretty much a mess all season. They already fired Jim Montgomery and could be on the verge of shaking up the roster too. Given the fact that Frederic is a UFA after the season, he could become available at the deadline.
Maybe this is all rumor mill stuff and it won’t come to fruition but it sure sounds like teams are very interested in prying Frederic away from the Bruins.
Elliotte Friedman had the following to say on his ‘Saturday Headlines’ segment on Sportsnet:
“The Bruins are getting a lot of calls. ‘What are you thinking here. Will you keep him? Will he be available’,” Friedman said. “He’s a guy that’s definitely got a lot of interest.”
This is not the first time the Bruins have considered trading Frederic. These rumors have been going back years now. He’s been on the block before and it sure appears that he can be had for the right price.
Frederic, 26 carries an AAV of $2.3 million and is an impending free agent after the conclusion of this season. This decision will likely depend on whether they believe they can extend Frederic for a reasonable number. If there are no real extension talks happening, maybe a trade really does happen here.
Personally speaking… this is very much a player I’d want on my team. Frederic is a great fit for any team who needs to add some physicality and grit on the third line. The former first round pick in 2016 posted 40 points in 82 games last season.
