Let’s take a look at the 2023 NFL Draft Profile for Tanner Morgan. Does the Minnesota product have what it takes for the NFL level? (Bjorn Franke / University of Minnesota)

Tanner Morgan 2023 NFL Draft Profile

It feels like you could have just slapped any Big 10 jersey on Tanner Morgan and it would work. Morgan is the epitome of Big 10 football. Run the ball and manage the game. That’s what Morgan did forever at Minnesota. Is it good enough to make it at the next level? Let’s go over the Tanner Morgan 2023 NFL Draft Profile!

Any team that drafts Morgan has to hope this is the outlier on the scale and he turns into Matt Schaub. The Minnesota product checks in at 6-foot-2, 215. The skill set and size are never going to be overwhelming here. You’re hoping to get a back up developmental out of this.

The only problem is I think there are a lot of red flags here when you dig deep. Here’s what I see at least.

Arm strength is not good. Not good at all. Probably below what NFL standards require.

He’s bad under pressure. Not just bad but incapable of ever buying himself more time in the pocket. He’s going to have to be in a spot where his guys win and the ball comes out quick. Otherwise, good luck. I wouldn’t say as though he’s a pus when it comes to handling the pressure. The athletic traits are just below par and he becomes overwhelmed quickly.

Morgan played five years in college and feels like he peaked four years ago. Just never kept getting better after. Morgan threw for 30 touchdowns in 2019. He threw for 26 the next three years after. PJ Fleck has been there the whole time too.

In conclusion, Tanner Morgan is the quintessential Big 10 quarterback. It’s line it up and run the ball while Morgan manages the game. At Minnesota, that was good enough to win more than a fair share of games. The lack of upside in this case really hampers Morgan. I have an undrafted grade on Morgan with the chance that maybe he can stick in the league as a pros, pro back up.
