Can Steve Angeli become the next Kyle McCord? Syracuse sure hopes so. Steve Angeli spent this past year as Riley Leonard’s back up. Now he’s heading to Cuse to be the starter in Upstate New York.
The former 3-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class announced the news himself:
I have some thoughts on this, and I’ll leave them here for you to consider:
A: I have the Stock report notes here you can check out. Angeli took over for Leonard in the game against Penn State when he got hurt. Honestly… he looked better than Leonard, but of course, that’s an incredibly small sample size. Based on the few snaps he took in that game, it sure looks like Angeli can play.
B: It’s now incredibly obvious that CJ Carr won this job. Angeli and Carr were battling for the job, but if you follow the tea leaves, it’s clear Carr is going to be the starter for Notre Dame. Carr is just a redshirt freshman, but was highly recruited. He has a much higher ceiling as a passer than Leonard did.
C: We’re going to learn a lot about the Syracuse program. Is Fran Brown legit? Was Kyle McCord just sneaky good this whole time? Does Angeli have any chance to replicate that same level of success? Don’t forget, McCord led FBS in passing yards a season ago.
D: Keep an eye on Zeed Haynes. He should emerge as the top wide receiver there and go to target for Angeli.
