The Cowboys are spiraling! Dak Prescott will miss up to eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his hand. Dallas got blasted by Tampa in Week 1 but somehow CeeDee Lamb caught some ricochet shots from Stephen Jones.
Dallas clearly isn’t happy about the production they’re getting from Lamb. Jerry Jones’ son called the former first round pick from Oklahoma out in the media.
“I think we’ve certainly got to step up and do better,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Monday, via Mark Lane of WFAA. “The passing game goes hand-in-hand, the quarterback and the receivers. Certainly, we’ve got to be better there. CeeDee has got to improve and work his way into being the No. 1 receiver we think he can [be].”
Lamb, 23, finished the game with two catches for 29 yards. However, Lamb was targetted 11 times. Lamb does have the occasional drop issue but there is just no chance you can blame that performance on Lamb. Just no chance.
Dak Prescott posted a passer rating of 47.2 prior to leaving the game with the hand injury. That’s the third worst mark of his career. Maybe Dallas shouldn’t have traded Amari Cooper. Maybe Dallas shouldn’t have picked that bum Tyler Smith in the first round. Perhaps they should have pushed the extra mile to keep La’El Collins instead of trotting out Terrance Steele who can’t play. Blame yourself, Stephen. Your team stinks. Don’t put this on Lamb because that’s just totally outrageous.
Maybe it’s not a super big deal but how can you not view it this way? If the Cowboys burn a bridge with Lamb, what exactly do they have left besides an aging Zack Martin and Micah Parsons? Lamb will get better but blasting him in the media for all of the problems they created? No, that shouldn’t sit well with anybody.
