Stephen A Smith vs. Kwame Brown

Kwame Brown has had it out for multiple media personalities. He had attacked Stephen A Smith for a famous rant Smith had back in 2008, but when Gilbert Arenas appeared on the ‘All The Smoke’ Podcast on May 13, 2021, and called Brown a bust, Brown had a lot to say in response.

Brown went on Instagram Live on Tuesday to share his side of the beef between Smith and himself. The video was much more vulgar and hostile than the response to Arenas, Stephen Jackson, and Matt Barnes.

Stephen A. Smith’s Response

Smith responded via Twitter, essentially stating that he would not fight Brown over a comment he made over a decade ago.

What is odd is that Brown has been picking fights with guys like Arenas and Smith despite their opinions representing so many others around the NBA and larger basketball world. Even Kobe Bryant said that Brown did not call for the ball when they played together in L.A. because Brown was too nervous, yet Brown has taken over a decade for Brown to start defending himself against the comments that media figures make in reference to him.

Funnily enough, most comments regarding Brown’s shortcomings in the NBA are not too far off. Brown was a number one overall pick in the draft and, despite his 12-year career, only averaged 6.6 points per game and 5.5 rebounds as a 6’11” center in an era dominated by big men. In any case, Brown is not the first player to react negatively to a Smith comment, and he certainly will not be the last.
