I’m sure we all have heard the news by now. Shannon Sharpe and Fox have agreed to buy out the rest of Sharpe’s contract, meaning he will be leaving FS1’s “Undisputed” after the NBA Finals are over. It was a move that surprised many, and this has led many people to think about what is next for Sharpe. Well the great Stephen A. Smith, cohost of “First Take” on ESPN, wasted no time giving his opinions on the issue, stating it was a huge loss for Fox.
It’s pretty easy to see why that is the case. The two obviously never agreed on anything but have had some all-time classic debates.
It sometimes sounded like the debates you used to get in with your friends during lunch in middle and high school: Constant interrupting and both sides getting louder as time progresses. They may not have always been right, but you could never say they weren’t entertaining.
Sharpe was obviously a big part of this success and is why he is likely to draw interest from multiple companies, which is why Stephen A. Smith wasted no time making his pitch to bring Sharpe onto First Take. He is clearly very knowledgeable when it comes to the ins and outs of football and certainly has a personality that is built for TV.
I’m not sure if he will Join First Take or where he will end up. He may just decide he has made enough money and want to retire into the sunset. I really doubt that’s the case and it seems like Shannon Sharpe still has a desire to be in front of the camera.
What I am pretty sure of is that Sharpe will succeed wherever he ends up going. He is smart, charismatic, and clearly knows how to perform in front of a camera. It will be weird not seeing him across from Skip Bayless, that’s for sure. But I suppose all good things come to an end.
I don’t know what is next for Bayless. He obviously has to bring someone else in but he has to be careful to bring ins someone who can work/bounce off his personality, much like Sharpe did all those years.
It’s a big blow for Bayless and I’m interested to see how he bounces back. Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Bayless. Something that I know a lot of sports fans will be happy to hear.
