The Dallas Stars continue to sign their homegrown stars (pun intended) to team friendly deals. Both Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson signed deals with Dallas this offseason. Neither maximized their full earning potential to help the team. Somehow in the middle of the season, first line center Roope Hintz has joined the party signing a massive extension to stick with the Stars.
Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff was the first to report the news:
As seen in the Tweet above, Hintz will cash in on an AAV of $8.45 million. That’s a big raise from the $3.150 mark that he was earning this season. This was an important extension for Jim Nill to get done as Hintz was about to become a restricted free agent this Summer. With the cap about to spike, getting their first line center locked up now was just damn good business.
Hintz, 25, has 24 points in 22 games with Dallas this season. A good number of those points coming on assists via goals from Robertson. Be that as it may, Hintz’s player card as seen above tells the story. This is one of the best top line centers the league has to offer.
Jim Nill deserves so much credit here. Getting this deal done now is going to save him money down the line. Given the cap issues Dallas was already facing, this was sort of the last piece of the puzzle. The core of this team is all signed for the foreseeable future.
