Dallas Stars Sign Jason Robertson to a Four-Year Contract

Jason Robertson and the Dallas Stars have come to a contract agreement for the forward to stay in Dallas for the next four years. Robertson was signed to a four-year contract with a $7.75m AAV totaling $31m according to a statement from the Stars Wednesday night.

Following a period where we could have seen Robertson be on the move, it was relieving for the Stars to lock up the 23-year-old for four more years.

Robertson is going into his fourth season in the NHL after putting up a career-high 79 points with 41 goals during the 2021-22 season for the Stars. His 41 goals led the team while his 79 points were the second most for the Stars behind Joe Pavelski’s 81 points.

Along with goals, Robertson led the Stars in shots with 220, power-play goals with 13, and plus/minus finishing the season +16. The California-born star had a breakout year playing on the first line alongside Pavelski and Roope Hintz and created one of the better first lines in the league.

“Jason is an integral part of the present and future of our team and we’re thrilled to have him for the next four years,” said Stars coach Jim Nill in the team’s statement. “Since he was drafted by our organization, he has worked tirelessly to become a better player every day. His knack for scoring goals and seeing plays develop on the ice are just some of the tremendous assets that he brings to our team.”

Drafted 34th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, Robertson spent his first year in the AHL playing for the Texas Stars and put up 47 points in 60 games to earn himself a call-up to the Dallas Stars for three games in the 2019-20 season. Robertson scored his first NHL point in his first game with an assist on the game-winning goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In his first full year in the NHL during the 2020-21 season, Robertson finished with 45 points in 51 games and ended up being second in the Calder Trophy voting behind Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild.

The Stars and Robertson get their regular season underway on Oct. 13 away to the Nashville Predators and have one more preseason game against the Wild before then.
