Sports Illustrated is in shambles

Sports Illustrated currently finds itself in hot water, with AI being at the center of its issues. For those who don’t know, SI allegedly went and bought a bunch of AI-generated images and created fake profiles for those pictures in order to publish AI-generated articles, while making them look like real work.

News of this started to spread quickly, with SI eventually taking down all the content when asked about it. But, the issue here isn’t solely the use of AI. Whether we like it or not, AI is here, and it’s only going to become more prevalent, but it has become a very valuable tool for writers and numerous other professionals.

But you don’t just get to take a bunch of AI-created content and completely pawn it off as your own. It’s dishonest and will ruin any credibility you have with your readers. You shouldn’t have to rely on creating fake people just so you can look like you’re creating more content.

It really has been quite the fall from grace. Sports Illustrated used to be the pinnacle of sports media and if you wanted to get your voice heard in the world of sports, you went to Sports Illustrated.

But as competition has increased within the sports media world, SI just hasn’t been able to catch up, and at this point, they likely never will. It’s sad seeing them have to rely on ploys like this to seem relevant. They used to be the cream of the crop; now, they have just become a laughingstock within the community.

The worst part about all of it is that SI 100 percent knew what they were doing was wrong, but desperation can lead to some stupid decisions. This is a perfect example of this.

AI is supposed to be our friend; help us out. Hell, it’s even being used in the very sports we watch. With minor league levels in the MLB implementing robot umpires to eliminate bad calls. But when you use it like this, and straight up lie about it, you are just trying to make a fool of yourself.

I don’t know who in that office thought this was a good idea … I just hope they no longer work there.
