Sony Claims Microsoft Adds Bugs to PlayStation Editions of Their Games

Sony’s attempts to halt the Microsoft-Activision merger have reached new, mind-boggling heights on Wednesday. The company is desperate to halt the deal that has brought about concerns of monopoly and hope for greater cooperation across the industry, and now feels like it needs to play some pretty ludicrous cards.

Strange Claims

Sony’s current strategy is to get government regulatory elements to halt the deal. Should even one major market block the deal, it might just be enough to give Sony what they want.

With the FTC suing to block the deal, as well as the European Union’s long history of putting consumers over companies when it comes to monopolies, supposed or real, Sony might just get what it wants.

Still, the company’s recent interactions with Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority will no doubt hurt their efforts, specifically, the claims the company has made regarding Microsoft and Activision’s future relationship with Sony should the deal go through.

According to a Window Central article, Sony has claimed that Microsoft has refused to make any deals with them. This is despite that fact that Microsoft has publicly tried to do so and that Sony has refused to call back about any deal.

Then there is the frankly stupid claim that Microsoft and Activision would sell intentionally buggy and broken copies of Call of Duty for the PlayStation. Considering that there have been previous titles that Microsoft explicitly owned that were ported over to the PlayStation like Minecraft, it’s silly to think that they would intentionally try to sabotage PlayStation like this.

Deal or No Deal

Nevertheless, given recent trends of regulatory agencies, Sony’s efforts might bear fruit. The monopolization of the tech and video game industries are big topics now, and shutting this deal down would be a big win for groups like the FTC.

Only time will tell if this deal will be shut down. But if it is, it will prove that Sony’s childish methods have some weight behind them.
