Slight Change in Aquaman 2 Release Date
In a slight shift, Aquaman 2 will be releasing early, but by only a few days. This comes with a series of announcements by Warner Bros. regarding the film studio’s upcoming catalogue of movies.
The Changes to Aquaman
Aquaman 2 was originally slatted to release on Christmas Day of 2023. Instead, the movie will now be entering theaters on Dec. 20. The comic book movie is to be swapped with a theatrical version of The Color Purple, with Warner Bros seemingly deciding that it would be more appropriate for The Color Purple to take up the Christmas views over Aquaman 2.
This swap, however, now pits the super hero flick against several other movies, with Universal and Illumination’s Migration as well as Sony’s newest Ghostbusters film.
Other Changes by Warner Bros.
Alongside what is being done with Aquaman and The Color Purple, Warner Bros. is also announcing changes and updates for their catalogue, from Wise Guys to a live action Minecraft movie to even Toto. A movie about Dorothy’s dog from the Wizard of Oz. April 5 is shaping up to be a big month for Warner Bros.
But alongside the switching around of dates and the announcements of update and changes to other films, Warner Bros. has also opted to remove some projects from their catalogue as well, including an unnamed DC film that was originally supposed to release on Sept. 22.
What This All Means
All of this doesn’t mean all that much in the “short term.” But it is a sign of how Warner Bros is changing up it’s priorities regarding it’s films in the long term. However, with the reboot of the DCEU on the horizon it seems the studio is shifting away from comic book movies for now.
