SimBull 2021 CFB Full Team Breakdown: Kansas Jayhawks

Welcome to Vendetta’s SimBull CFB full team breakdowns, where the writers from Vendetta Sports Media will be analyzing all the Power 5 college football programs for their share value on SimBull. This edition looks at the Kansas Jayhawks.

2020 Record: 0-9 (0-8 Big 12)

2021 Projected Win Total (via William Hill Sportsbook): O/U 1.5 Wins

On the Field

Two weeks into the 2021 season, the Kansas Jayhawks have already exceeded their win total from all of 2020-21. Lance Leipold is in his first year as head coach after turning Wisconsin-Whitewater into a DIII dynasty and building Buffalo into a respectable program. He has his work cut out for him with the Jayhawks. As it stands, this roster is not up to snuff with the rest of the Big 12, or really with the rest of Division I football. Kansas aren’t the worst in recruiting – definitely not the worst in their conference – but they need Leipold to elevate the talent in this program to see any movement towards winning football games.

The likelihood that the Jayhawks win any Big 12 games this year is slim, but it’s not impossible. Even though they won’t be favored, there’s a chance Kansas stumbles their way into another win or even two somewhere along the line. Should they pick up their second win of the season in conference play, that translates to an ~8.5% return on investment. Not horrible for the worst Power Five team in the country.

In the Market

There’s not really a whole lot of positive things to say here. Kansas is 65th in share price – dead last – of all Power Five teams on the SimBull CFB market. A share of SimKU-FB costs just $11.43, the cheapest of any SimBull share by more than nine dollars. I guess the logic here would be that the only way to go is up? Kansas’ price demonstrates a serious deviation from where we see the rest of the market. Once Lance Leipold gets some things moving and returns the Jayhawks to being an actual P5 program, there will be gains to be made. The best time to buy in is now.

You can almost have two Kansas shares for the price of the next cheapest CFB stock (Illinois). Honestly, there’s no good reason not to buy in, and the risk is super low. You might need to hold them for quite a while, but it could be worth it in the long run.
