When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Sidney Jones in the 2nd round of the 2017 NFL Draft, I thought was a STEAL. Jones was the number one corner on my board but slipped due to injury. A talented team like Philadelphia was in a great position to roll the dice. Thus far, things haven’t worked out well. Jones has missed a number of games because of injuries and just hasn’t performed well in general. With the 2020 season coming, Jones is ready to prove the haters wrong.
“There’s a whole lot left. That’s all I can tell you. You haven’t seen nothing yet,” Sidney Jones said Thursday afternoon in an interview.
Howie Roseman said, “It’s time for him to prove it,” and Jones agrees.
“Adversity builds character,” he said. “I feel like I have weathered the storm. I am ready to show what I can do and prove it.”
It’s now or never for Jones. In 3 NFL seasons, he has 2 interceptions. Sidney Jones has mostly but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t show potential. Some of his efficiency numbers from this past season are promising. Jones allowed a passer rating of 85.7 and catch rate of 43.7. Those aren’t terrible numbers.
One thing that will help is the addition of Darius Slay. Ronald Darby was a huge disappointment in 2019. If Slay can perform like a number one corner, it could allow Jones to finally flourish. That young group of Rasul Douglas, Avonte Maddox, and Jones really needs to take a leap. If they do, this secondary could become a strength instead of a weakness.
