Can we just have a quick chat about this because I don’t get it. Sidney Crosby should be admired for his attitude and demeanor. I just want to know at what point does it become stupidity?
I don’t really understand the loyalty angle here. Crosby, 37, has spent his entire career with the Penguins organization. The thing about it is are we actually going to pretend he owes this franchise anything? Crosby was the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft. Are we going to act like every single team wouldn’t have taken Crosby first? Crosby isn’t being loyal. If anything, he’s being loyal to the ping pong ball that decided the Penguins would draft him. That’s really what we’re talking about here.
This Penguins team stinks. They missed the playoffs last year and are only getting worse. The Jake Guentzel trade was terrible. The team was already old. Then they hired brain-dead Kyle Dubas who couldn’t get anything right with the Leafs. The resume so far with Dubas has been gross. He hasn’t gotten anything right with Pittsburgh either.
If the Penguins were run like the Capitals, I would get the argument to stay. Washington has re-tooled the roster around Alexander Ovechkin. They made smart pick ups like Dylan Strome, Jakob Chychrun, Matt Roy, etc. Then supplemented more young talent with guys like Connor McMichael. The Penguins doubled and tripled down on old and terrible.
Let’s be honest about what’s going on in Pittsburgh. Crosby is wasting his time. Doing nothing but picking up stats. He could have went to a place like Colorado and maybe won another Cup. Instead, all he’s really doing is helping ownership sell tickets while the team stinks it up.
Talk about loyalty all you want. At some point, someone has to acknowledge that what he’s doing is being stupid.
