Should The Red Sox Trade Chris Sale?
The Red Sox might be transitioning into a serious rebuild mode. They’re just not telling us that yet. Chris Sale is one of the few remaining players from that 2018 World Series team. A team that has lost their ways since Sale struck out Manny Machado for the final out that year.
Jon Heyman is a big-time liar so take what he says with a grain of salt. With that in mind, Heyman suggests that the Red Sox consider their rotation an area of strength and are open to trading Sale for the right price.
“Chris Sale is a pitcher they and others could look at. The Red Sox told teams early they had no intention to trade Sale, but they’re open to listening on starters now. … “
Let’s really break this puppy down. It’s likely Sale will return to Boston. However, you can never have enough pitching and I’m quite sure the Red Sox are crazy enough to talk themselves into thinking they have too many good ones. You never truly know what’s going on in Chaim Bloom’s head. Nothing that guy ever does make sense.
Then again, we know that Bloom continues to prioritize young farm talent. If a team is willing to offer a prospect they like for Sale, maybe there is a trade to be worked out here. The problem is Sale’s stock couldn’t be lower given all of the health issues he’s dealt with over the past few years. Would the Red Sox eat some money on this deal to get a suitable return? Sale opted back into his deal and the Sox are on the hook for a pretty penny. If so, maybe a trade does happen.
