Should The Heat Trade For James Harden?

Should the Heat trade for James Harden? What if Harden is Miami’s best way to keep up with the arms race in the East? (Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports)

Should The Heat Trade For James Harden?

It’s an arms race in the East. The Celtics added Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. The Bucks added Damian Lillard. However, the reigning champs in the East haven’t really done anything. In fact, you can make an argument that they’re worse after losing Gabe Vincent and Max Strus. Should Miami consider doing the unthinkable and making a move for James Harden?

Harden, 34, is apparently planning on making a scene at 76ers camp. Daryl Morey is not one to cave and make a bad deal but it’s hard to see Harden playing another game for Philadelphia. It’s uncertain where things will go next but at this point, it’s hard to find a place for Harden.

It’s been reported that the Heat don’t want Harden. I totally get why. The guy is a bum and the definition of a quitter. He doesn’t fit Heat Culture at all. However, the reality is Miami may be the best spot for Harden. Culture is exactly what Harden needs and frankly… Miami needs an added punch offensively.

Miami averaged 109.5 points per game last year. That was good enough for dead last in the NBA. The Heat have the best coach in the league but at some point, you gotta have guys that can put the ball in the basket. Jimmy Butler can do exactly that in the half court when the game slows down. You still need more than just that.

Miami also has options to get this done. When I say options, I mean options that shouldn’t be viewed as painful. Kyle Lowry is a dead corpse at this point. I’m sure Philly wants to do better but maybe taking him is the best way to get anything back for Harden. If that’s the cost, are we sure Miami shouldn’t do it?

Remember, this team was an eight seed last year. They didn’t have a ton of margin for error and were minutes away from not even making the playoffs had the Bulls not choked in the play-in game. Miami probably won’t go down the Harden role but if they really believe they’re culture can get the best out of guys, are we sure they shouldn’t?
