During an interview with Polygon, Seth Rogen – producer of The Boys, Invincible, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, spoke of his attraction to working on projects untied to comic book powerhouses DC and Marvel.
The actor admitted that it was mostly, probably, fear which has thus far driven him away from the pair of companies, and their IPs. He delved deeper, explaining that he and co-writer Evan Goldberg have built their own way of working over 20 years. So it’s more a fear of the process, although he admitted to knowing nothing about the process.
“It’s mostly a fear of how would we plug into the system they have in place, which seems like a very good system, and a system that serves them very well. But is it a system that we would ultimately get really frustrated with?”
“What’s nice about this is that we’re the producers of this [Mutant Mayhem]. So we dictated the system, we dictated the process in a lot of ways. And that’s what’s also appealing for us about The Boys and other bigger franchise-y type things we’ve done, is that we’re creating the infrastructure and the process for them, not plugging into someone else’s infrastructure and process. We’re control freaks.”
Only one Von Erich remains from their legendary pro wrestling family, Kevin Von Erich, who will be portrayed by Zac Efron in the upcoming ‘Iron Claw’ biopic.
Joining Zac Efron as the other Von Erich brothers, Jeremy Allen White will play Kerry, with Harris Dickinson as David. AEW World Champion MJF will portray Lance Von Erich – a kayfabe member of the family. Additionally, WWE star Dolph Ziggler will play Gino Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero Jr. will take up the role of The Iron Sheik.
The biopic will hit theaters on December 22, 2023. The tragic story of the Von Erichs is close to wrestling fans’ hearts, and as such Zac Efron’s portrayal will be held to a high standard. Kevin Von Erich sadly lost all of his brothers and father by 1997, making him the last of his siblings. Kerry, Mike, and Chris Von Erich all took their own lives in a span of seven years.
