The Seattle Mariners already have their closer in Andres Munoz

Last season, the Seattle Mariners bullpen was one of the worst in the league. They struggled to find a closer after they traded away Taylor Williams. But they have their closer. He’s coming off Tommy John Surgery and is only 21 years old, Andres Munoz.

The Seattle Mariners already have a few young studs, could Munoz be another.

At the trade deadline of the 2020 Covid shortened season, the Seattle Mariners traded catcher Austin Nola, and Pitchers Austin Adams, and Dan Altavilla to the San Diego Padres for Munoz, catcher Luis Torrens, Top Outfield prospect Taylor Trammell, and infielder Ty France.

Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto had gotten a haul in that trade. How will it work out for him?

There are a few options the Mariners can go with but, they received a young closer in Andres Munoz. Not only do they have Munoz, but they also have Yohan Ramirez.

Ramirez took over the closer role when Taylor Williams was traded, and he collected 4 saves. However, the Mariners have Munoz who is coming off a tommy john surgery.

Munoz is still only 21 years old, but has already seen his first glimpse in the big leagues. In 2019, he pitched in 23 innings for the San Diego Padres across 22 games. Recording his first save and win.

But the kid can FIRE. His fastball can reach triple digits consistently and his fastest is 102.9 Miles Per Hour.

Although, he does struggle with his command at times. The Mariners pitching staff can help with that. It’s one of the things they focus on when it comes to their pitchers.

Before the surgery, he could consistently hit over 100 mph. Will he be able to after? That is yet to be seen.

There is no question, that the Mariners need help in their bullpen. Having Munoz come back from his TJ surgery will help out a lot.
