Sean Strickland Is Unimpressed With Israel Adesanya’s Career

The UFC Middleweight division is finally in a good place in late 2024 and that is in part due to Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya. UFC 305 just wrapped up this past weekend and Dricus Du Plessis was victorious as he defended his belt against Adesanya. Fellow fighter and rival of these fighters Strickland had some harsh words for Adesanya after the loss. Strickland is now the most likely contender to face Du Plessis for the next Middleweight championship fight. He discussed UFC 305 and Adesanya in an interview on Verse Us with Eric Nicksick.

They discussed a lot of things on the podcast but when it came to UFC 305 and Adesanya, Strickland kept his words short.

“Izzy’s just not that f—–g good.” –Sean Strickland.

These disparaging comments would shock a lot of MMA fans. Adesanya is a two-time middleweight champion with five title defenses and an overall 13-4 record in the UFC. He is one of the stars of the UFC and is regarded as one of the best middleweights of all time by most UFC fans.

However, it is no secret that these two rivals do have some bad blood between each other. In Fact, Strickland is 1-0 against Adesanya and upset Izzy to win the belt at UFC 293. Strickland would go on to use the Gastelum and Costa fights as examples to support his belief in Adesanya’s inadequacies as a fighter.

Strickland’s Thoughts on Adesanya Continued

According to Strickland, Adesanya does not deserve to be talked about amongst the best of the best. He acknowledged he is good but not elite by saying,

“I’m talking about the 10% of the f—–g most elite guys. That’s what I’m talking about. And you’re not in that.” –Sean Strickland.

This is a bold take from Sean as Adesanya’s career is what some fighters dream of achieving in the sport. I shared the list of Adesanya’s accolades in the UFC earlier but it seems those achievements mean nothing to Strickland. Ultimately, Strickland had provided even more fuel in this beef and who knows these words could come back to haunt him if they ever fight in the octagon again.
