Jason Kelce retired this offseason and the last thing the Eagles need is another anchor of that unit to call it quits. Speaking of which, how much time does stud right tackle Lane Johnson have left? It’s a question worth asking as the former Oklahoma product is about to enter his 12th NFL Season.
Johnson claims he could play into his 40s if he wanted to but probably only has two to three years left because he wants to prioritize his family.
“I think physically . . . I could play to 40,” Johnson said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “With my movement, I think physically I can do it. What weighs on my mind is just, my kids are getting older, my dad’s getting older and has had some health issues.”
“We’ll see,” he said. “It’s hard to step away from something you love and something that you’ve done for so long. I grew up as an only child, so this is really the only brothers that I’ve had, being a part of a team.”
Johnson, 34, is still at the top of his game making a Pro Bowl appearance last year. He’s arguably the best right tackle in the game. Kelce retired at the age of 36 and it looks like Johnson is eyeing that same benchmark when he wants to call it quits.
Losing Johnson, when that day comes, will be a huge blow to the Eagles offensive line. The good news is Mekhi Becton looks like he’s going to start at guard for them this year. Could he eventually shift over to the right side down the line? Food for thought.
