Sarah Fillier is Scary Good

If you know anything about women’s hockey, there’s a chance you know how Sarah Fillier is scary good.

If you know nothing about Fillier, the 21-year-old is currently playing for Canada’s Women’s Hockey Team at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Her Olympic debut started with a 3 point first period, 2 of them being goals in the first 8 minutes of the game. At 21, she already has another major tournament with the women’s senior team, appearing at World Championship, scoring 6 points, and taking home gold.

Before putting up points on the biggest of stages, Fillier dominated the NCAA. Playing for Princeton University, she put 57 points in the two years she’s attended. On top of that, she finished as a Patty Kazmaier Award Finalist both seasons.

She’s been unstoppable at almost every level. She already has two medals under her name by winning a silver and bronze at the U-18 level for Canada. At the PWHL, she was a dominating forward with the Oakville Hornets, scoring 50 points at 16 in the 2016-2017 season.

Fillier is one of the fastest players on the ice, as she seems to glide around the ice at ease. If you add her good puck work and hockey IQ, she’s a hard player to play against. She flies at defenders, causing them to make quick decisions, most of them leading to turnovers. On top of all that speed, her release is just as fast and insanely accurate. She has all the tools to be the best for Canadian women’s hockey for years to come.

The Georgetown, Ontario native is already one of the biggest stars in women’s hockey. However, she still has tons of time to hit her peak. Fillier still has more season to put in at Princeton before taking her next step to the pros. If her dominance continues throughout the Olympics, who knows what she could do when she continues to build her game for many years to come.

At the age of 21, this is undoubtedly just the beginning of many more Olympic and World Championship appearances. Her debut was successful and fun, as the young forward found the scoresheet more than once. Canada’s game against Team USA is following Monday, Canada’s biggest challenge in the round-robin. Fillier can impact that game, putting up points against Team USA in pre-Olympic games.

Sarah Fillier is a growing star for women’s hockey, and she still has so many great years ahead of her.
