San Francisco Giants Fire Manager Gabe Kapler

Days after being eliminated from postseason contention, the San Francisco Giants have fired manager Gabe Kapler after four seasons Friday, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan was among the first to break this news.

It really has been quite the fall from grace for Kapler and the Giants this season and, more specifically, post-All-Star break.

An offseason that involved losing out on Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa served as a rough start, especially paired with losing ace Carlos Rodon. But the signings of Mitch Haniger and Michael Conforto gave fans some reason to be hopeful.

A solid first half of the season put them in a good spot to land the top wild-card spot, a position they held for quite some time. Once the All-Star Break came and went, the Giants turned into one of the worst offensive teams in MLB.

They maintained control of earning a postseason berth in early September, until they ran into a stretch where they lost 10 of 13, essentially ending their 2023 season. It was an ugly tailspin, but not necessarily a surprise for Gabe Kapler-led teams.

In the last two years, Kapler is a combined 20-36 in the month of September, something that played a huge part in his eventual departure from the Phillies.

He clearly has a gifted mind when it comes to the Xs and Os of baseball, but none of that matters when he seemingly uses the wrong relief pitcher on a nightly basis or puts together lineups that make you question if a child took over.

I was never big on Kapler and never will be. His 2021 season was a fluke consisting of veteran players having the best years of their careers. To be completely blunt, he doesn’t have the balls you need to do this job at a high level.

He is a deer in headlights when the lights are brightest and isn’t fit to lead a team on a serious playoff run.

I’m sure there is still some team that will be fooked by his looks, charisma and nerdy knowledge of baseball. I just hope they realize the mistake they will be making it becomes too late.

Giants fans can now rejoice, well not maybe rejoice. But it’s a good day when Gabe Kapler is no longer your manager, so try enjoying the little things, I guess.
