San Francisco 49ers 2019 NFL Training Camp Preview

San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have a real pass rush now. Does that make the real contenders? Let’s check out the rest of their training camp preview (Anda Chu/Bay Area News Group)

Do not sleep on the San Francisco 49ers. I repeat… DO NOT sleep on the San Francisco 49ers. It will be a big mistake if you do. Do you realize that the 49ers have a punchers chance to win the NFC West? Jimmy Garroppolo is 6-2 as a starting quarterback for San Fran. I also get Kyle Shanahan, improved offensive weapons, and new pass rushing toys. What’s not to like? Let’s take a look at the San Francisco 49ers 2019 NFL Training Camp Preview!

3 Position Battles To Watch:

Running Back: Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, Jeff Wilson, Raheem Mostert

The 49ers have too many running backs on the roster. Which 3 or 4 will make the roster? That’s not including a fullback (Kyle Juszczyk) that will make the team too. Tevin Coleman is probably a lock. So is Jerick McKinnon who is recovering from a torn ACL. The other 3 will battle for the the last spot. Maybe they will keep 4?

Linebacker: Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw

Fred Warner was one of the worst linebackers in football in 2018. They paid Kwon Alexander a bunch of money to miss a bunch of tackles. This is a bad linebacker room. Dre Greenlaw is a rookie that has to contribute. How much gas does Malcolm Smith have left?

Backup Quarterback: Wilton Speight, Nick Mullins, CJ Beathard

This is a fun one. Nick Mullins nor CJ Beathard couldn’t win when Jimmy Garopplo went down. Wilton Speight is now going to get a chance to be the next reclamation project. All of them probably stink but given Jimmy G’s health concerns, it’s something to monitor.

Ready To Breakout: Tevin Coleman

It’s Tevin Coleman’s time to shine. He finally gets reunited with Kyle Shanahan and a clear path to start. Coleman has never gotten the proper respect he deserved. As the primary starter last year, Coleman averaged 4.8 yards per carry. I want Tevin Coleman on all of my fantasy teams. The primary Kyle Shanahan running back is always fantasy gold.

Rookie To Watch: Nick Bosa

How can it be anyone else? San Francisco has a real pass rush now for the first time in a while. Dee Ford is also in. I want to watch those two guys coming off the edge and killing people.

Fantasy Sleeper: Deebo Samuel

I’ve been all over Deebo Samuel for awhile. If he isn’t the best receiver in the 2019 NFL Draft, I’ll be stunned. He’s the best route runner in the Draft class. He’s the best yards after the catch guy too. I love me some Deebo. Somebody is going to turn into the number one receiver. I wouldn’t mind taking on shot on Dante Pettis to be that guy.
