Saints’ Chris Olave Arrested On Suspicion Of Reckless Driving

Late Monday night, police arrested Saints wide receiver Chris Olave for reckless driving in Kenner, Louisiana. They reportedly clocked Olave going 70 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.

This is allegedly the second time that Olave has received a speeding violation in Kenner. According to a Kenner Police Department press release, he also received a ticket for driving 54 mph in a 35 mph zone on August 21st.

According to body cam footage released Tuesday, Olave was cooperative with the officers and did not resist. Police observed the Dodge Charger driven by Olave traveling at a high rate of speed and recklessly maneuvering between lanes and around other drivers on the roadway.

In that bodycam footage, the Ohio State product expressed to the officers that he played for the Saints, but they couldn’t have cared less.

The arrest of a prominent athlete serves as a reminder of the responsibility and scrutiny that comes with public visibility, even for those who shine on the football field.

The Saints said they were aware of the situation but had no comment. Olave was booked into the Kenner jail Monday night and was released at 11:30 p.m.

The team did not practice Monday after they were given the weekend off following a Thursday night game last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They lost 31-24, with Olave hauling in seven passes for 57 yards.

The 23-year-old is in his second year with the Saints, and leads the team with 39 catches for 471 yards and a touchdown. In his rookie year, Olave led the team in receptions (72), yards (1,042) and hauled in four touchdowns.

The Saints take on the Colts Sunday in Indianapolis, Ind.
