The Sacramento Kings are acquiring center Jonas Valanciunas from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Sidy Cissoko and two second-round picks, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported Wednesday afternoon.
Cissoko was one of the seven players the Kings originally acquired in the De’Aaron Fox trade over the weekend.
According to The Athletic‘s David Aldridge, the second-round picks will be in 2028 and 2029.
Valanciunas, 32, is averaging 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds on 54.7 percent shooting and 60.2 percent true shooting. On a per-75-possession basis, he’s averaging 20.3 points and 14.6 rebounds, which is excellent production despite him playing a limited behind Alex Sarr.
He will help ease the pressure off a frontcourt led by center Domantas Sabonis. They don’t have another backup center outside of Alex Len, who is nowhere near the player or rebounder that Valanciunas is. He’s not going to space the floor, but he is an excellent screener, rebounder and play-finisher.
He is also on a team-friendly three-year, $30 million deal that can be moved if the Kings are seeking a bigger trade down the line. It is the Kings we are talking about here, but he is a potential salary filler and is on a non-guaranteed deal in 2026-27. That may be attractive to certain teams, even though he is entering his mid-30s.
Regardless, the Kings did have a stash of second-rounders to consolidate, and Valanciunas should help them right away. It’s not a home run, but it’s not nothing. What are your thoughts on the move? Let us know in the comments!
