Fantasy Hockey: Rangers Acquire JT Miller

We’re now a few days removed from the trade that sent JT Miller back to New York with the Rangers. Chris Bagdonas and I sat down and chatted about the deal so the video you see below will be included in this fantasy hockey post and the trade grades article previously published. Enjoy the extra content. If you don’t care to watch it, feel free to comment on how you feel as a fantasy hockey manager!

Filip Chytil:

Chytil’s stock goes up. No question about it. While I might hate the trade from a value standpoint for the Canucks, it doesn’t have anything to do with Chytil’s fantasy hockey potential. Plus, if he has another concussion, it doesn’t matter because you can just put him on your IR or drop him.

Chytil, 25, was averaging roughly 14 minutes per night with the Rangers. With the Canucks, he’s over 20 minutes in his first two games there. He’s already in the second line center role and involved in special teams. Already on the first powerplay.

Chytil is owned in roughly 4.5% of ESPN fantasy hockey leagues. That’s way too low. He’s a real asset in this situation. It’s not like the team is dreadful. They’re a middle team who will score goals. Buy Chytil for sure if you’re in need of help.

JT Miller:

This one is more simple. Miller’s value also goes up. Mostly because he’s motivated. He already has four points in his first two games with New York. The fact that he’s motivated is good enough to increase his value alone.

If you have Miller, there is no reason to move him. If you can trade for him while doing it at a reasonable price, you should do it. He had over 100 points last year. If that’s the guy we get down the stretch for the Rangers, he’s a weapon in fantasy.
