Roschon Johnson 2023 NFL Draft Profile

But what about the other Texas running back? We just went over Bijan Robinson in the draft profile series. Next up is his backup, Roschon Johnson. Yes, Texas has another running back in the draft. This one is just way less known. Let’s review the Roschon Johnson 2023 NFL Draft profile to review everything you need to know.

For starters, I’m out on Johnson. Want no part of him. He’s a bigger, less coordinated version of Keontay Ingram. How valuable is that and why should I waste a draft pick on a running back with little to no value? I talked about Johnson plenty in Senior Bowl and Combine notes. Didn’t find him impressive during the pre-draft process at all.

The biggest downer for me on Johnson is his play speed is terrible. His 4.58 40 time is fine but it’s faster than he plays. Johnson is a power back that can grind out yards but lacks juice or any creative punch. Think of a bulldozer that’s not overly big (6-foot, 220) but too slow to actually pick up game breaking chunk yardage. What does he do that Dont’a Foreman can’t? Better yet, how is Johnson even better than Foreman who was available for free this offseason?

If you’re looking for positives, Johnson can play special teams. He also has one career fumble. 2022 was also his best season and showed progression during his college career. This past year for Texas, Johnson rushed for 554 yards on 93 carries and five touchdowns.

The reality is Johnson is set for third and fourth string duties in the NFL and will likely have to fight for a roster spot every single year he’s in the league. I have an undrafted grade on Johnson and you probably should too. Running backs are easy to come by and this one isn’t special enough to use a draft pick on.
