Ronald Acuña Jr. Out For The Season with Torn ACL
Ronald Acuña Jr. is out for the season after tearing his ACL in his left knee. This was revealed Sunday by the Atlanta Braves after an MRI. Acuña sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against the Pirates with what the team initially called knee soreness.
If you watched the game you could assume otherwise, Acuña’s knee buckled when he attempted to steal third base. He immediately collapsed to the ground, remaining there for several minutes before carefully walking off the field with trainers by his side.
Many remember Acuña tearing his right ACL in July 2021 against the Marlins. This time marks another major knee injury for Acuña in the 26-year-old’s career. The 2023 National League MVP missed the rest of the 2021 campaign and Atlanta’s run to the World Series because of the 2021 ACL tear.
The Braves are second in the NL East behind the Phillies, with Acuña Jr. going down the Braves could look at Adam Duvall to play right field in Acuña’s absence for the immediate future. Michael Harris II is cemented as the center fielder, while Jarred Kelenic has regular playing time in left field.
This is the second season-ending injury to a Braves star player after Spencer Strider underwent elbow surgery in April. On a better note, the Braves expect Sean Murphy and Austin Riley to return to the lineup soon.
The Braves still have plenty of personnel to compete. However, it is always hard to see one of the game’s best players sidelined for the year due to injury.
Ronald Acuña Jr. finishes his 2024 season with four home runs, 15 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases across 49 ball games.
