Rodney Hood Retires From NBA

On Thursday, ESPN NBA Insider Dave McMenamin announced via Instagram that eight-year NBA veteran Rodney Hood would be retiring from the game of basketball. He most recently played in the 2021-22 season for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Clippers. In the 21-22 season, he averaged 3.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 36.9% from the field and 33.3% from three in his 52 games played.

Per McMenamin’s Instagram post, “Rodney Hood told ESPN he is retiring after eight seasons in the NBA with Utah, Cleveland, Portland, Toronto, Milwaukee and the L.A. Clippers. The 6-8 guard/forward made a comeback attempt with the Memphis Hustle in the G League last season before another injury told him it was time. Hood, 32, is finishing his degree with Duke University and looks forward to pursuing a career in coaching.”

Went To The Finals

Rodney Hood spent two years in college, playing for Mississippi State and Duke. He was then drafted 23rd overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. He also spent time on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, and, as previously mentioned, the Bucks and Clippers. Hood’s biggest career accomplishment would have to be being a part of the 2018 Cavs team that lost in the finals to the Warriors.

Unfortunately, Rodney Hood is one of those athletes who will be lost to time. A sort of blip on the radar. He is one of those guys you and your buddy mention in those “remember that guy?” conversations. He has no notable accolades. The highest of which are being on the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2012 and being Second-Team All-ACC in 2014.

I hope that finishing his college degree and coaching work out well for Rodney. May he find success in those fields that he never quite found in the NBA.
