The Jets and Falcons held joint practices this past week. Despite their lack of recent success, there is no doubt the Jets were the better team over the course of the practices. Well, outside of Kyle Pitts that statement rang true. So much so that Robert Saleh basically called Kyle Pitts a made up god that someone created in Madden.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh had high praise for the Falcons tight end. Saleh called Pitts a ‘Create-A-Player’ in Madden. It’s safe to say that Saleh was blown away.
“He is a create-a-player on Madden,” Saleh said, via Scott Bair of the Falcons’ official website. “That’s exactly what you would look like. He’s going to be a dynamic football player for a long time. Anytime you get a chance to see just different avatars, they’re just different. When you get a chance to go up against those guys, it’s looks different, it feels different, and it elevates, and it just teaches you a few things.”
When asked about Saleh’s comments, Pitts had this to say in response:
“I saw it, yeah,” Pitts said, via Bair. “It was pretty cool.”
“Mentally, I feel like I’ve grown,” Pitts said. “Especially before the ball is snapped. I’m still trying to get better at it, both post-snap and pre-snap, by maturing mentally first.”
Pitts, 21, notched 68 catches for 1,026 yards as a rookie. The former University of Florida product only managed to grab one touchdown. Part of that obviously rests on how pitiful the Falcons are but it’s a pretty safe bet he eclipses that number in year two.
Pitts is already emerging as one of the best tight ends in football. That’s a pretty big accomplishment considering that history has told us that tight ends are a position that often takes longer to develop. With Calvin Ridley suspended for the season, Pitts will have to carry the load in the Falcons passing game.
In case you were curious, Pitts is rated as an 87 in the latest edition of Madden. That also comes with a 91 speed and 90 catch rating. If you have Pitts on your Madden team, I can only imagine how ridiculous he gets if you properly develop him in the game. That’s a scary thought.
The Falcons are probably going to suck in 2022-23 but they have a star on their hands with Kyle Pitts. No question about that.
