Robby Anderson is Contemplating Retirement

After 6 years in the NFL, Carolina’s veteran wideout, Robby Anderson, published a now deleted Tweet saying he’s thinking about retirement. Although not one of the primary options on the Panthers with D.J Moore and Christian McCaffrey in town, Anderson still would likely hold a considerable offensive role this upcoming season.

Coming off a relatively unproductive season for his standards with the lowest season yard tally he has had in his entire 6 year career, Anderson may be thinking his time is up. Robby Anderson did also agree to only a 2 year deal last summer so maybe the idea of an early retirement has been in his head for a while.

The other scenario could honestly be that he wants out of Carolina and is using every tactic possible. I highly doubt he’s as ecstatic to play with Sam Darnold as he was last year considering the season Darnold just had. I mean I can’t blame him either. If my organization saw that last year and still has made no move to even find an average quarterback for me, I would probably want out too.

If Anderson does indeed leave or actually retire, it could open up some things, especially for Terrace Marshall Jr. who had a pretty disappointing rookie season. Maybe I was just a year early on the fantasy relevance for Marshall. What’s probably going to happen though is CMC and Moore just get force-fed the ball even more as Darnold or pretty much any quarterback the Panthers can realistically get at this point will likely just be a game manager that tries to get the ball in the hands of his best playmakers.

If his tweet was legitimately a sign of things to come, I wish Robby Anderson good luck and congratulations on a successful NFL career. If it was simply to draw some attention and maybe get away from Sam Darnold, I wish him the best of luck in that as well.
