I’m tired of talking about the sign stealing scandal, but more and more things keep popping up. I have no choice to write about it. This next story is truly unbelievable. Alex Cora was fired for being accused as this master puppeteer in the cheating scandal. Fired for what he did in Houston as a bench coach, of course, as if that makes any sense. While the Red Sox are being investigated, Rob Manfred spoke about what’s going on.
During a TV appearance on FOX, Manfred was asked about the possibility of the Red Sox and Astros being stripped of their titles to they could be handed to the Dodgers. For some reason, LA is actually dumb enough to fight for this. Anyway, here’s what the Commish had to say:
“There’s a couple of problems with (that),” Manfred said Wednesday during a TV appearance on FOX Business. “We haven’t concluded our investigation with the Red Sox, so it’s a little hard to take the trophy away from somebody who hasn’t yet been found to do something wrong. We don’t know what the outcome of that is going to be.”
“HASN’T YET BEEN FOUND TO DO SOMETHING WRONG”?!?!? This has to be a joke right? So what you’re telling me is that Cora go wacked for something he did as an assistant in Houston while taking orders from the manager? Tell you what, this makes sense. If only you could see the anger in my typing of this.
I have more of an issue with the way this process has gone, then I do about the punishments. Rob Manfred gave the players full immunity for the story on Houston. I’m sure this means sign stealing will never happen again. Players are off the hook, managers will just get fired.
Of course, there’s the part about him threatening the Red Sox to strip their title if they didn’t fire Cora. So Manfred lied there. He also went on live TV and said he doesn’t know if the Red Sox did anything wrong. Seems very organized and detailed guy.
