The Red Sox Were Going To Keep Alex Cora Until Rob Manfred Threatened To Take Away The 2018 Championship

If I didn’t hate Rob Manfred already, I really hate him now. It seems like every minute, some crazy story comes out. I have a hard time believing Mike Trout on steroids can be topped but this next one comes close. The Red Sox parted ways with Alex Cora, but they didn’t want to. A new report suggests that the Red Sox wanted to keep Alex Cora, but Rob Manfred threatened to take away the 2018 championship if they didn’t fire him.

NBC Sports Boston’s Gary Tanguay had the following:

“John Henry had every intention to keep Alex Cora as the Red Sox manager, despite Cora’s impending suspension from Major League Baseball. When the possibility arose that the Red Sox could be stripped of their 2018 World Series title, the owner threw him out of the boat. The owner gave up his manager. He was the sacrificial lamb. The Red Sox and the Astros are nervous they could lose their championships. Lot of anxiety at Fenway Park, I was told.”

I wish John Henry would have held strong but now I understand what happened. I was actually shocked they fired Alex Cora. I think the Red Sox would have rather gotten rid of Mookie Betts. That’s how much I think they loved Alex Cora. I cannot believe Rob Manfred really stepped in and threatened to strip the title.

It does make sense that the Sox could have kept Cora. If it was a one year suspension, there’s no reason Ron Roenicke couldn’t have stepped in for a year and then had Cora come back. I just wish Henry was have fought for Cora more. Fuck the ring. Who cares if it gets stripped. It’s not like we will think of anybody else as the champ that year. Reggie Bush got stripped of the Heisman. At the end of the day, who cares?

Rob Manfred better hope his own scandals don’t bite him in the ass. It’s one thing to hand down suspensions. This guy literally threatened to take away a championship if they didn’t fire someone who did most of the crimes as a bench coach for another team. INSANE. Especially considering Manfred has his own ass to worry about if Mike Trout is taking steroids and he’s hiding it.

I don’t even have words for this. Alex Cora, in reality, is such a good human being. This is a man that refused to take the Red Sox job unless the team sent supplies to Puerto Rico to help the hurricane victims. Hey, Rob. Tell me. Why don’t you force teams to cut players who are involved in domestic violence? Seems like you got your priorities messed up.
