It’s easy making fun of the Knicks. It’s also unavoidable. Time and time again, the bar drops lower. This latest example is laugh out loud funny. Richard Jefferson broadcasts games for the Brooklyn Nets. During the Nets telecast against the Knicks, Jefferson had some hilarious quotes. He told a story that he chose retirement instead of playing for the Knicks.
“I refused to play for the Knicks,” Jefferson said. “Like Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, they don’t really care. Me? I was the one person that said: ‘Knicks? No, I’ll retire.’ That’s why I retired. They were the one team that offered me a job.”
It doesn’t get much worse than that. Washed up Richard Jefferson would rather retire than suit up for the Knicks. He would have fit in so well in New York too. They love signing players who are way past their expiration date. Good for RJ. He knew it was time to call it quits. When the Knicks are the only team calling, your time is over.
Jefferson had a wonderful career. He was a vital part of those Nets teams that went to the Finals. He won a ring with the 2016 Cavs. He played 17 years in the NBA. There was no reason to add the Knicks stain to that resume.
I try not to make fun of the Knicks. It’s just always there right in your face. This is so embarrassing for the franchise. Not only did Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant want no part of their circus. Old man Richard Jefferson turned them down too. Where does it end? Next Luol Deng is going to turn them down. Imagine Luol Deng goes to the media next and says this? Big Yikes.
