Resident Evil, Walking Dead, PS5 Exclusive coming to PSVR 2

Yesterday’s State of Play had major news for PlayStation franchises and consoles alike. A remake for Resident Evil 4. The next mainline entry in Final Fantasy. And a full-length trailer for Street Fighter 6. But as one of the quieter announcements to hit the Sony community, the PSVR 2 is getting more titles for its debut.

All reports of Sony’s second virtual reality headset point to an ambitious console. Unlike the original system, the PSVR 2 will be connected with a single wire. It features 4k resolution, eye-tracking, and even haptic feedback. The only thing missing from the console is, well, new games! But as of the June State of Play reveal, that’s about to change, and, in a big way.

Incoming PSVR 2 Titles

Sony detailed four titles for the PSVR 2 in their 30-minute presentation. And the franchises they’re including are pretty iconic. Resident Evil, Walking Dead, and the Horizon series are all getting new releases on the headset. Additionally, Sean Murrary, founder of Hello Games, confirmed that the space odyssey No Man’s Sky is, also, “about to get a whole lot more immersive“.

The lucky Resident Evil game coming to VR is arguably one of the best in the series: Resident Evil Village. Fans can re-live the experience of taking on Dimitrescu Castle, mutant hordes, and the towering Lady D. The title was released back in 2021, but an entirely new game arrives from Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution follows the first chapter on the original PSVR system. It includes new weapons, dangers, and additions to its New Orleans setting. The game is slated to arrive in 2023 for the PSVR 2 but will not be exclusive to the system, unlike Horizon Call of the Mountain, the latest Horizon game being developed just for the new console.

Sony seems hard at work fulfilling its promise of 20+ release titles for the PlayStation VR 2. Though the console’s release date is unspecified, many are looking at 2023 as the golden year.
