PlayStation Plus Extra and Plus Premium have been made available in the USA at last. Resident Evil: Director’s Cut has emerged as one of the surprise inclusions in the Premium lineup exclusive to the US as of yet.
The PlayStation Store describes the title as being enhanced with up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters. It’s yet to be confirmed whether or not the release is going to receive Trophy support. There are other RE titles in the Premium tier of PS Plus, such as Resident Evil 4, 5, 6, Code Veronica X and Revelations 1&2.
RE: Director’s Cut is a re-issuing of the original PlayStation release. Unlike RE for the GameCube, it is not a remake of the original game, instead, it is more of a slight remix. There are three gameplay modes available. “Original” contains the original game with no changes or additions.
RE4 is the next classic entry in the franchise to get the remake treatment. It is also set to be the first RE title to be entirely next-gen as it released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles alone.
RE4 is perhaps the most popular of the series, having released on PlayStations 1,2,3&4, Xbox 360 and One, Nintendo Gamecube, Wii, Switch, PC, Mobile and Google Stadia. It is also the third classic entry in the franchise to be getting a remake in the RE Engine, after Resident Evil 2 and 3 found their PS One versions uplifted to modern gaming.
Capcom’s latest chronological instalment, RE Village, appeared to take substantial inspiration from RE4. Between the Village and Castle locales, as well as similar enemies such as Del Lago and Moreau the respective games’ resident lake monsters.
